Nutrition: Fuel for Performance
This massive topic is something that more and more athletes, clubs and people in general are paying more attention to – and rightfully so! Nutrition is an important component for not only functioning but also getting the most out of our bodies and performing at the highest level.
We go in-depth into ‘best-practices’ for nutrition and also talk specifically about nutrition before and after practice, before and after games and nutrition for recovery. This also involves discussion about common myths and stigma surrounding foods and also talks briefly about supplementation.
We all know how important training is but don’t give recovery the true recognition it deserves! In a simplistic view, training is the stimulus for adaption and recovery cements those adaptions – which is how we get stronger, faster and perform better.
We cover the latest trends and studies of recovery and highlight the key points that players and coaches can implement into their routines to ensure they are helping keep their body in its optimal condition to reduce injury risk and improve performance!
Load vs Capacity
This is a key principle which governs how our body functions. Our muscles, bones, bodily systems, healing etc. all have a specific capacity (capacity = the ability to do work). Load comes in many forms; practice, strength training, stress, nutrition etc. and needs to be equal to or less than our capacity for our bodies to be in balance and injury free.
When our load gets too great for our capacity OR our capacity is reduced due to other factors (stress, bad nutrition, lack of sleep etc.) – that is when we don’t function effectively and increases our risk of injury.
Prehab / Injury Prevention
We discuss the key themes in injury prevention because as the saying goes - prevention is better than a cure! We delve into what areas should be monitored and what should be paid special attention to ensure players and athletes can perform at their best.
This can also include a run through of sport specific injury prevention programmes (FIFA 11+ for football, ACTIVATE for rugby etc.) in which we cover the ins and outs of how to correctly implement these to reduce the risk of injuries.
